Members of the European Parliament ask the Commission about cardiomyopathies

Affecting ~1 in 330 people in Europe, cardiomyopathies can strike at any age, often leading to severe complications, hospitalisation, and even heart transplants. The human and economic toll is significant – yet policy attention remains minimal.

To draw attention to this situation, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) Nicolás González Casares, Elena Nevado del Campo, Romana Jerkovic, Liesbet Sommen, Leire Pajín, Nikos Papandreou, and Tomislav Sokol signed a Parliamentary Question to the European Commission enquiring how cardiomyopathy will be positioned in the upcoming EU Cardiovascular Health Plan. In particular, the MEPs ask:

🔹 What is the Commission currently doing to help tackle the burden of cardiomyopathies on patients, families, and healthcare systems?

🔹Is the Commission planning to incorporate cardiomyopathies into its upcoming Cardiovascular Health Action Plan?

🔹 How does the Commission plan to promote early diagnosis of cardiomyopathies, given that the disease is often underdiagnosed, misdiagnosed, or late diagnosed?
