On the 14th of June 2024, Cardiomyopathies Matter (CMatter) steering group member, Dr Tootie Bueser presented the poster “Cardiomyopathies Matter: a multistakeholder European initiative to improve patient outcomes through effective health policies”at the Congress of the Association of Cardiovascular Nursing and Allied Professions (ACNAP) in Wrocław (Poland).
ACNAP 2024 gathered healthcare professionals involved in cardiovascular care under the theme ‘Patient-Centred Multidisciplinary Perspectives in Cardiovascular Care’, where they discussed the basic principles of practice and new scientific developments and technologies. Dr Bueser took this opportunity to showcase CMatter’s efforts to raise awareness of cardiomyopathies among policymakers to ensure that this group of diseases receives the policy attention they deserve.
The poster presented the CMatter initiative, highlighting its EU Policy Roadmap and recent advocacy successes, for example the recognition of genetically inherited diseases and the importance of secondary prevention in the European Parliament report on non-communicable diseases. The poster also touched upon National CMatter initiatives which are underway or in development in Belgium, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, and Spain, and reiterated CMatter’s main call to action: the need for robust cardiovascular health action plans at EU and national levels.
The poster generated great interest among the attendees, who lauded the policy-focused nature of the initiative and the involvement of various stakeholders, including patients, across Europe.
