“Unseen, Underdiagnosed, Undertreated”
Cardiomyopathies Matter participants, Rogier Veltrop, Tootie Bueser, and Patricia Tiramani, have published, on behalf of Cardiomyopathies Matter, an op-ed in the Parliament Magazine, calling for urgent action to improve early diagnosis and better care for cardiomyopathies in the framework of the upcoming EU Cardiovascular Health Plan.
Cardiomyopathies are a serious public health threat affecting 1.5 million people across Europe, yet they remain largely invisible in policy discussions. These inherited heart muscle conditions are a leading cause of sudden death and heart transplantation, often due to delayed or missed diagnoses.
🔍 Early detection can save lives, reduce hospitalisations, and enable family screening to prevent severe outcomes.
📣 It’s time for EU and national policymakers to give cardiomyopathies the attention they deserve!
